The benefits of infant massage have been well researched, and studies have demonstrated the positive impact it can have on the emotional and developmental wellbeing of infants.
Many parents turn to baby massage to help their baby relieve colic, trapped wind, and constipation but were you also aware that baby massage has been shown to improve babies’ mental development and alertness, as touch creates sensations which stimulate babies’ brain, thus supporting their development?
Baby massage can help your baby develop good muscle tone, co-ordination and suppleness; it enhances body awareness and boosts the immune system. As you massage your baby you will become more confident in handling your baby, be more aware of your baby’s cues, and you will also find it calming and relaxing.
Baby massage has been shown to help with establishing regular sleep patterns, and the calming effect improves sleep. As part of a bed time routine baby massage has been clinically proven to help babies fall asleep faster, wake less often, and sleep for longer.
