The lovely Emma Winterbourne who runs Creation Station in Thame and surrounding areas, kindly invited my son and I to join in one of their creative and fun, Little Explorer sessions. The friendly group of mums and their kids had been on an exploration of shapes and the class we attended was final one in this theme.
The class started with a colourful parachute which the little ones enjoyed wafting up and down and then taking turns to go underneath and create their own crazy shapes.
My son loves to get messy and it’s not always the kind of thing I can face at home, especially with the clean up. This class was perfect for some messy fun. Emma provides everyone with an all in one cover up overall so you don’t have to worry about bringing a change of clothes.
We made ‘gloop’ and the kids really enjoyed the mixing, squishing with fingers and dribbling over a long roll of paper to create all kinds of shapes. It was also my son’s first introduction to a little bit of science, with the gloop getting firm when squeezed and runny again afterwards when released.
Pre school kids attention span doesn’t last long and Emma was quick to transition to the next activity at just the right time. Continuing on the theme of shapes, there were boxes of lots of different shapes set out, glue and paint so all the kids could get stuck into creating their own dinosaur collages. I think the Mum’s enjoyed it too!
The class rounded off with a fun shape themed game and a song. A great way for little ones to learn while having fun at the same time.
