Set on the edge of a housing development near Carterton, Kilkenny Lane Country Park is a surprisingly fun place to go with the kids.
There are 2.5km of footpaths which were ideal for pushing my youngest around in his pushchair and a long enough route for my older kids to razz around on their bikes. We really loved stopping off to marvel at the two huge metal shire horse sculptures with their amazing texture.
There’s a really great play park too with lots to keep kids of all ages busy for hours. Unusual swings, stepping stones, a huge sandpit with diggers, a massive climbing frame, slides, tunnels, a willow maze and even a totem pole. It was lovely to have the old classics as well as some unique extras.
There’s a small car park that can quickly fill up on a busy day and when it’s sunny you’ll often find the ice cream van there too. There were no public toilets when we visited (March 2017) but it looks like they are building some.
