There’s nothing better than picking your own fresh fruit and vegetables. Their taste and flavour can’t be rivalled by anything you buy in the supermarket and it’s really good value too. It’s also a great way for kids to get involved and encourage them to try new things. Here are a few great places to go in Oxfordshire to PYO (pick your own).
Rectory Farm, Millets Farm and The Old Farm have all been reviewed on the website, so click on the link for more details and lots of photos.
Rectory Farm is located just outside Oxford, not only can you pick the most delicious of fresh fruits and vegetables, but it has the added bonus of free bouncy castle, hay bales to climb on and sun shaded sandpit. There are plenty of picnic tables or grab something from the Barefoot Café.
Millets is chock full of activities to keep the kids happy and regularly has some great events too. There’s a large PYO, with wide variety of fruit and vegetables, or pick up some ready picked from their farm shop.
The Old Farm
You’ll find all the great fruit and veg favourites at the Old Farm near Harwell. Children might also enjoy visiting the chicken enclosure. For those keen to feed the hens, food can be purchased at the shop. Lambing also takes place in April.
Medley Manor Park
Pick your own fruit & veg at Medley Manor Farm and enjoy light lunches and teas on Saturdays during June and July.
Banbury Self Pick
Banbury Self Pick has less in the way of additional interest for kids beyond the self picking but still a great opportunity to get fresh and local seasonal fruit and vegetables.
Hildred’s PYO is a lovely little PYO fruit and vegetable area just outside the beautiful village of Goring. It’s a simple, rural set up with several fields of PYO fruit and vegetables and payment at the caravan. Asaragus and rhubarb are available to pick from the ground from mid April until mid June. Strawberries and gooseberries are available from mid June until mid July. Blackcurrants, redcurrants and raspberries are available in July and at the beginning of August.
