Dragon Sensory is owned by Gabby who also runs Moo Music classes. Gabby has converted a whole building with expertise and passion for early years and with a great understanding of play and sensory exploration.

Dragon Sensory has two elements, indoor sessions and the amazing garden.

Sessions can be booked throughout the day with the chance for Gabby and her team to reset between sessions. Numbers are restricted and tickets purchased in advance for a very reasonable amount!

I had heard about Dragon Sensory a while back but hadn’t had the chance to go yet so was super excited to hear that the garden had reopened. I went along with my 2 year old and a friend also booked a ticket for her 1 year old. This is a great way to meet up with friend and their children and have endless activities on offer. It has a very different feel to a lot of groups which you attend and I would probably liken it more to a toddler group experience but with WAY better things to play with. It is not directed and you supervise and interact with your children however Gabby is also their as a playmate and to bring out the chickens!

What is in the Dragon Sensory Garden?

As an ex teacher and Nursery Manager for me it was like walking in to an amazing nursery garden but with a whole week’s worth of activities all out at once! Everywhere you looked was something fun to explore. What I loved about it was that it was built around loose parts, small world, sensory and physical exploration. The list is endless but there was:

  • Kitchen for mud and water
  • Water walls with tubes and tubs
  • Bridge and climbing beams
  • Dinsosaur messy tray
  • Magic sand
  • Playdough
  • Flower and water exploration
  • Digging patch
  • Sand area
  • Hiding teepee
  • Sorting activities
  • Scooping and pouring activities
  • and more!

Things to know before you go to Dragon Sensory

Your child will not come home clean. Take them in their scruffy clothes and take a change of outfit. We went in puddle suits and wellies so the clean up was easier. On a warm day throw on shorts and t shirts and take a spare outfit. (adults you may get messy too!)

There are very clean toilet facilities with changing table inside. We liked the added touch of their being a basket with spare nappies and wipes as this can be so useful!

Pop it into your maps on your phone before you got it is on a residential road and looks like a house. Watch out for the banner hanging outside. There is parking on the road and a few spaces on the driveway but be prepared you may have to park slightly further down the road.

Have a snack before you go as I believe it is discouraged when you are there as much as possible. Our girls did both sit and munch something with no problem but it does say on the website no food. (It was actually annoying that they were hungry as it wasted valuable playing time!)

What about inside?

The inside area was closed when we visited due to Covid (April 2021) but was shortly reopening in May. The rooms will then be bookable for sessions but you will choose a room rather than have access to the whole site. Garden sessions will still be available. Gabby has also created a new Cosy Room which I chatted to her about. Her aim is for it to be a space for mums and babies to come and meet and chat. It has been thought out with comfy chairs, soft furnishings and sensory mats for young babies. An ideal space to feed as well if you are visiting. Gabby was very passionate and has lots of ideas for Dragon Sensory for 2021 and 2022. Parties are also on offer.
