A Christmas Carol at Didcot Railway Centre

16 December - 17 December

Join Didcot Railway Centre on  16th and 17th December for an exclusive performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’ performed by Gerald Dickens.

Back for a third year after sell out performances in 2023 and 2024, Gerald is pleased to return to Didcot Railway Centre for 2025.

Gerald is an actor, author director and producer and is the great great grandson of the author Charles Dickens.

In 1993 he created his first one-man show, a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol inspired by Charles Dickens’ own energetic readings of the 1860s.

A fascination with the life and works of Charles led him to write and direct further one-man shows including Mr Dickens is Coming!, Nicholas Nickleby and Sketches by Boz. He regularly performs in major theatres and arts centres as well as at hotels and stately homes.

He also appears at several arts and literary festivals in the UK and has been entertaining cruise ship passengers worldwide since 2007.

You’ll be able to arrive from 4pm onwards and explore over 200 years of Great Western Railway history before heading to the patio area for transportation down to the transfer shed for the performance. Please note that our signalling centre and archive will not be open. Gerald will also gladly sign copies of his books ‘Dickens and Staplehurst – A Biography of a Train Crash’ and ‘My Life on the Road with A Christmas Carol’

You’ll be transported you back up to the cafe during the interval for warming mulled wine and mince pies during the break, while Gerald will be available to talk to you about his experiences and finally return back down in the diesel so that you can wend your way home.
