Illuminate Oxfordshire 2025 Review

Booking somewhere brand new always comes with a little risk. You never quite know if it will live up to the promise, or if you’ll leave wishing you’d played it safe. But our visit to Illuminate Oxfordshire at Millets Farm proved that sometimes taking a chance pays off in the most dazzling way.

You park outside Sprouts Playbarn and then the light trail starts from the animal walkway.

First impressions were postive with glowing reindeer and trees but more of a gentle introduction.  However, before you know it you reach the most stunning field of glowing tulips and it blew us away.  We were there on a Sunday evening in November and word hasn’t spread yet as we pretty much had the area to ourselves, although I can see that peak dates and times now have lower availability so best to get in quick!

The trail is almost a mile long and weaves down from the animal walkway and then loops back past the lake to where the maize maze is held in the summer.  There’s a great variety in the light installations that felt both immersive and imaginative. Each section had its own personality, keeping us engaged and excited to see what was around the next corner.

There was everything from glowing orbs on the lake to the floor of the woods covered in lights like magical tree roots. There’s no big breaks in between each section either and I there was definitely a lot more than I was expecting.

It even snowed!  Well, no not really but still caused a lot of excitement.  When you reach a Victorian style pathway lined with old style street lamps, make sure you pause near the start as there are regular bursts of foamy bubbles.

We finished up at the food huts and had dinner, there’s a good variety from crispy chicken burgers to flatbread wraps and loaded yorkshire pudding.  If you’re up for marshmallow toasting you can do this halfway round the trail (3 large marshmallows on a stick for £5 or at the end).

The trail takes about an hour to complete at a comfortable pace. That felt just right—long enough to feel like a proper evening out, but not so long that little ones would tire.

A lovely touch was having one last light display of blue lights gently moving the breeze as you exit.

Illuminate Oxfordshire went far beyond our expectations. It’s rare to find a new attraction that feels so polished and thoughtfully designed right from the start. If you’re looking for something fresh, family-friendly, and utterly enchanting this season, Illuminate Oxfordshire at Millets Farm has delivered a light trail that deserves a spot on your must-visit list.

If somwhere like Blenheim Palace Christmas light trail is just too much out of your budget, I’d highly recommend this as an alternative (it’s about half the price and parking is free).

Lots more ideas for Christmas light trails in Oxfordshire and beyond.
