Within this bright and inviting space we offer children a distinctive and successful combination of four key factors which together create our unique OLA environment helping our Nursery and Reception children achieve more:
OLA Nursery and Reception children are taught according to the requirements of the Early Years Curriculum. They are offered a broad range of experiences and are encouraged to achieve their full potential through a balanced programme of adult-led and child-initiated activities. The children benefit greatly from the more focused attention that comes with our smaller class sizes.
OLA is a small school of under 500 pupils in total including our Nursery and Reception, Junior and Senior Schools and Sixth Form. This has major benefits.
Our small is beautiful approach with all age groups being taught on the same site in central Abingdon, means Nursery and Reception children can benefit from fun and engaging lessons with our trained teaching professionals from our Senior School.
This enriched curriculum offers a range of activities many of which will not be readily available at most private nurseries. These include:
1. Weekly swimming lessons in our indoor swimming pool with our experienced swimming teachers
2. Twice a week, PE instruction with our qualified PE coach
3. Weekly French lessons with our specialist French teacher where children are introduced to the language through songs and games
4. Music and movement sessions encouraging expression through dance, drama and role play
5. A weekly trip to our woodland, Forest Classroom, where they have the opportunity to explore the woods and the natural environment
Trips and Excursions
As well as visiting our Forest Classroom once a week, children also have the opportunity to attend many trips away from school: Christmas Pantomimes at the Playhouse, fruit picking at Millets Farm and visits to the seaside, to name but a few.
Highly Praised Pastoral Care
OLA pastoral care is highly praised by parents. Our children are nurtured to achieve their best and encouraged in every way. Education is not just about academic results, although these are important, it is about building confidence and self-respect.
We have a broad curriculum which includes the opportunity to excel in Music, Drama and Sport. We spend time developing every aspect of our children’s characters so that they go on as confident, resilient learners, curious about the world around them and with friendships which can last for decades.
Our Catholic Christian ethos which welcomes children of all faiths or none, is at the heart of everything we do. It is reflected in the positive relationships that exist between all members of our school community. The encouragement given to each child to be the best they can be is part of that positivity.
