Top Spots to Breastfeed in Witney

Are you looking for breastfeeding friendly places to feed while you’re out and about?  Experienced midwife Nina shares her low down on where to go in Witney.

One of the great things about breasts being attached to you is that you can feed your baby anywhere, I for one have breastfed on the London underground, the bus, whilst walking, whilst eating dinner, and in the supermarket – to name a few! All this joy is to come for newly feeding families but sometimes (particularly in the early days) it is great to have a few places you know you can feed your baby where there will be somewhere to sit, drinks nearby and somewhere to change a nappy for that inevitable post-feed explosion.

Witney has some great free options for breastfeeding mums, here is the official “Your Midwives’ Shortlist.

Witney Library

The local library is in a great location in central Witney and tends be a quiet place to feed, with a few different seating options and lots of children’s books if you have an older child or toddler with you. You don’t need a library card for access, so it is an easy, free and accessible choice.

Windrush Leisure Centre

The leisure centre is another option with parking just outside and a cafe and seating area upstairs. A leisure centre may not be your first thought as a place for feeding your baby but it’s a relaxed atmosphere and because there is seating in and out of the cafe you aren’t expected to purchase anything. Also, as it’s a leisure centre it has ample changing facilities.

Witney Health Visitor Clinic

The health visitors run a clinic every Wednesday 9am to 1130am in the Methodist Church in Witney. This is a chance to catch up with other mums, chat to the health visitors about any questions you may have, and weigh your baby if you would like to. They are also happy for you to pop by just to feed and change your baby.

The Methodist Church

The Methodist church, just off the high street, has a friendly cafe and space in either the main building or the entrance to the Bethany room area where there are chairs and peace and quiet. Toilets with baby change facilities are just round the corner.

Your Midwives Breastfeeding Support Drop In

And of course, don’t forget the Your Midwives Breastfeeding support drop in on Tuesday mornings at the Methodist church, we offer breastfeeding advice up to 8 weeks after birth, but also welcome all mothers who are looking for a space to feed their little ones. We are there from 10am-noon on Tuesdays and have had some lovely feedback from local families:

“Rachel and Nina have been very helpful when I have attended the drop in clinic and I would highly recommend visiting them if you have concerns or questions about breastfeeding.”

Or if you are stuck in the house with feeding issues we can come to you!  Check out Your Midwives online.
