We visited Hinksey Outdoor Pool for the first time on a sunny day in early April. It’s a fabulous place which is definitely worth a visit. With a large pool, grassy areas and a great snack bar which sells a variety of hot food and decent coffees, it has all the ingredients for a brilliant family day out. Visit the excellent Hinksey Playground by the car park for some extra fun!
Hinksey Outdoor Pool Temperature
Hinkey Outdoor Pool is open from April to September. We visited in April during the week and were pleasantly surprised by the warm pool temperature which was heated to 25 degrees. My son wore a shorty wetsuit and was quite happy in the warm water. There were a handful of adults swimming lengths in the deep area but no other children this early in the season which meant that we were lucky to have the whole shallow area to ourselves – I’m sure it gets busy in the school summer holidays.
Hinksey Outdoor Pool Depth
The pool is split into two zones. The deeper area is zoned off and suitable for adult lengths. There is a large shallow area with water ankle deep which is perfect for toddlers wading and splashing. This gets gradually deeper so is ideal for children who want to swim too. There are fun dolphin images on the bottom of the pool, some railings to swim in and out of and a fountain too.
Hinksey Outdoor Pool Facilities
Parking is at the pay and display car park (off Abingdon Road). The changing cubicles are by the pool side. Spread out a rug on the grassy areas and bring a picnic. There are plenty of picnic tables as well as a table tennis table. A snack bar by the pool serves hot food including burgers and toasted paninis as well as ice creams and good coffee.
