Postern Hill Campsite, near Marlborough is a fantastic campsite, less than an hours drive from Oxford. Situated in 4500 Savernake Forest, it’s a brilliant place for a family weekend away. Explore the forest and enjoy climbing trees and rustling through fallen leaves. Bring bikes – younger children can enjoy cycling round the flat loop in the campground, whilst older children can enjoy exploring the trails through the forest. The highlight for us was renting a bat detector kit (£5) from the campsite shop and looking for some of the eleven species of bat in the forest at dusk.
Postern Hill Campsite Facilities
The campsite if open to caravans and tents. The tent pitches are unmarked so you can choose your own spot. There is a clean permanent toilet block and washing up sinks with lots of hot water. However there are no shower facilities so it is quite basic camping. Fires are not allowed as it is a forest site. The friendly shop sells sweets and ice creams and has information about things to do in the area. Marlborough is only a few minutes drive away and there is a hilly walking trail from the campsite. At the bottom of the walking track, less than 10 minutes away, there is a Tescos, a petrol station where you can stock up on provisions as well as a bike shop with also offers bike rental.
