Bishop’s Court Farm

What a fantastic find Bishop’s Court Farm was on Sunday.  My mum had recommended after taking my kids one day ages ago and I’ve been meaning to pop by and check it out myself. It’s nestled in Dorchester-On-Thames and a wonderful little trip out with kids.

Back in 2020, new owners made significant changes to restore access with existing paths and meadows opened for the community.  Now home to over 60 alpacas, lots of sheep and the Snug Cafe, there is amazingly no entrance fee.

We arrived just as food had been put out for a field of alpacas and they were all over gobbling it up and popping their heads up and down to give us a good look back.  My son loved being so close and was so fascinated by them. Bishop’s Court Farm run alpaca walking sessions on select days which I’m thinking would be a great birthday present for my son.

A family friendly sustainable farm, they’re set in the most wonderful South Oxfordshire countryside.  If you walk past the cafe, around the back and keep following the path, there are some great walks.  The path is wide and flat with a few pot holes here and there but still manageable for a pushchair.

We ventured along the path and there are fields stretching in all directions.  We found more alpacas and the air was filled with the sounds of lambs bleating.  The lambing is already well underway and they had a huge field filled with ewes and spring lambs.  We spent ages just watching them before continuing on our walk, past a serene lake and onwards until little legs decided they weren’t going any further.

Wittenham Clumps stands out on the horizon and I believe it’s possible to walk all the way there.

We planned to finish our walk with a visit to the Snug Cafe but the tables were full.  It looks warm and inviting inside and the dishes I saw being brought out to customers looked amazing so I’ll definitely be back.

The farm and cafe aren’t obvious from the road and I drove right past.  Tip is to keep an eye out for a wooden fence as you get close and it has some advertising boards on it for the companies based there include the Snug Cafe.  Once you turn in, there’s a short stretch and you’ll see the cafe ahead and slightly to the right.
