Calthorpe Park – Fleet

With the weather turning dry and signs of spring on the way, we are always looking for new playground adventures. It’s our favourite activity, fresh air, burns off lots of energy, can meet new friends whilst playing, and most importantly it’s free. So a big win win for us.

This is like a hidden gem, you wouldn’t actually know it was here until you literally slide into it. From the main playing field where people walk dogs, or in the sunnier weather is great for a kick about – this playground is tucked away but it’s fantastic.

To get down into the park is where the adventure starts. I opted for the practical way and took the steps but Noah and Isabella decided on the silver slide and basically slid into this adventure. (There is also a buggy friendly option too).

From first glance the playground is split into two sections – one gated for younger children with a selection of sensory play apparatus and climbing structures, and then the other which was impressive fort along with zip line, swings and obstacle course too.

Inside the smaller playground there was lots of exciting equipment to keep little ones entertained. There were swings, both toddler and older swings, a roundabout, a small elephant slide, a cute seasaw which sat the children side by side, a climbing frame with slide, a rope pulley bucket, and lots of sensory interactive boards which they could play with.

If you had different age children then the location of these two play areas next to each other is great. Although the smaller park is fenced off it’s the perfect height as you can still comfortably see other children playing in the larger fort area too.

Hands down The Fort is one of the best free playground equipment which we have ever seen, the size of it was incredible and there was so much to do within the Fort itself. We love wooden play structures and this one exceeded everything we have experienced before. You could run through the secret passages under the fort, swing like a monkey across the monkey bars, or scramble like spiderman across the cargo net.

Or run across the wobbly bridge and take your pick from three different slides or maybe the fireman’s pole. There was also two zip lines which went from the Fort itself across the open grass area. Around the edge was also an obstacle course made up of stepping stones, a balancing wire, cargo nets and hanging tyres.

Also there was a small tarmac area which would be perfect for toddlers to practice on their balance bikes or scooters. It was situated right next to the small playpark so visible if you had more than one child with you.

Also across the field was Calebs Coffee Bean which serves locally hand roasted artisan coffee and homemade cakes, although do check the times on opening as they vary from day to day and also season.

There is limited parking nearby which is only valid for 3 hours but I did see that there was residential parking areas if this was busy, but do check any signage about parking restrictions.
