Dorney Lake is a fantastic place for a family walk, bike, scoot or rollerskate. Set in a spectacular 450-acre parkland near Windsor, the site hosted the Rowing and Kayak events during the Olympic and Paralympic Games for London 2012. It’s privately-owned but open to the public almost all year round.
Currently the Dorney Lake grounds are open to the public for a trial period until March 2022 and under continual review. The Main Entrance Gates will be open for public access to the grounds and arboretum for leisure purposes from 07.30am – 05.00pm
The main entrance is currently the only way to access and exit site. All of the pedestrian gates remain closed.
Dorney Lake track
There is a 5 Km long track around the rowing lake. The path is tarred, flat and has a very smooth surface – making it one of the best places in Berkshire for scooting, rollerskating or for children learning to ride bikes.
Things to see at Dorney Lake
Spot ducks and swans in the lake. Plane enthusiasts will also enjoy the low flying aircraft flying into Heathrow! On some days, you’ll also see rowers and maybe even dragon boats.
Parking
There is plenty of parking at both ends of the lake. Parking costs £2.50 per day.
Refreshments
Head next door to the wonderful Dorney Court Kitchen Garden centre which serves lovely coffee, cakes and hot lunches including kids meals. There is a lovely playground and outdoor tables here.
