Emmanuel Christian School is a private co-educational school for children aged 3 – 11 based in the south east of Oxford in Littlemore. The school has the appearance of a traditional village school but is home to a vibrant community from across Oxford and beyond. Many families from overseas discover in Emmanuel a welcoming home for their children where diversity is valued and individuality is respected.
Emmanuel is a small school and provides a safe and stimulating space in which all children can flourish. The curriculum is built around a wide range of living books, exposure to the wonders of the natural world, and a broad understanding of the scope of world history. Many visitors to the school comment on how alive the children are to learning, the depth of their curiosity and their range of creative gifts. The curriculum is rooted in the context of a clear, articulate expression of the Christian faith in daily assemblies and in weekly Theology lessons.
A wide range of subjects is taught by class teachers and subject specialists. Art, Design, English, Geography, History, Latin, Maths, Music, PE, Drama and Technology are all taught in a way which creatively meets and exceed any national standard. Weekly ‘Friday Enrichment’ sessions provide extension and depth through visiting speakers, hands on workshops and creative projects.
Children actively engage in team games at break and lunchtime and formal clubs for cricket, football, tennis, hockey and netball are held throughout the year. Chess is a particular strength in the school and the school is competitive in Oxfordshire, winning the Oxford Schools Under 11 category in 2018. The school has its own orchestra and individual tuition is offered on a wide range of instruments.
Fees at the school are kept low through the generous gift of a school site by a local family so that the education offered can be as accessible as possible to families who share the school’s vision and aims. Parents are encouraged to partner actively with the school in their child’s learning and use their gifts in varied ways to contribute to the school’s development.
Emmanuel Christian School holds regular Open Days and events so that families can discover what ‘life and learning to the full’ really looks like. Every day at Emmanuel Christian School can be an Open Day; an appointment for an individual tour with the Principal can be booked through the school office. .
