Heidi and the Snow Globe
26 November, 2020 - 28 February, 2021
At Christmas families come together to share stories, gifts, treats and traditions. One traditional family activity is the Christmas show, with its cracker-style jokes, sing-a-
long songs and fun for all the family. You can now get all this online with Heidi and the Snow Globe until February 2021!
This winter Wild Boor Ideas gives everyone seasonal smiles with Heidi and the Snow Globe. The online Christmas show, created in partnership with the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building, maximises the joy, while keeping everyone safe. The show is available
to download between 26th November 2020 to 28th February 2021 from www.wildboorshows.com.
The Show
Meet Heidi whose mind is as swirly as a snow-globe! Her mother is ill and has asked her to fetch edelweiss from the top of the mountain to make her medicine. How will she face her fears (who take the form of three grumpy goats) and conquer blizzards, avalanches and a hungry wolf?
Full of Wild Boor Ideas’ characteristic puppet creatures who show that being mindful can be fun and really good for your health. Emma Boor says “Heidi gets to meet an athletic Ibex (a kind of goat), a family of whistling Marmots and a kindly arctic Ptarmigan. They all help Heidi come to terms with her anxiety and complete her quest. With all the snowball throwing, slipping and sliding, and even an avalanche thrown in, what’s not to like!”
The show is for families with children aged from 3-7 years. It is a wintery, online theatrical adventure set in the Snowy Alps, filled with heart, humour, and messages of resilience that makes it especially appropriate for now.
“Magical, wonderful experience for many first time theatre goers”; Wild Boor Ideas Audience member
How to Watch
The show is full of laughs, magical puppetry, music, clowning and plenty of opportunities to join in! You can watch the full 50-minute show on wildboorshows.com in one sitting or in five episodes, each of which has its own making workshops so that children can make their own puppet characters.
There is also a British Sign Language interpreted film available for 2 young people and adults with sensory impairments. The workshops can be found at the ‘wild boor ideas’ YouTube channel which also hosts ‘Wild boor TV’ (free puppetry workshops for early years children and their families).
Schools Workshops
Live, Covid-secure outdoor workshops are available for schools and nurseries from 1st
December until Christmas and from 5th January to 28th February 2021. Emma introduces
children to the puppet characters from Heidi and the Snow Globe, presents a Winter Wonderland Shadow Show in the Shadow Van and demonstrates how to make a shadow puppet to try out in the classroom.
‘what a fantastic experience for my class. Lots of participation and great ideas on wellbeing that we can build on in the classroom, they thoroughly enjoyed it’. ‘Emma brings the whole workshop to life, the children were totally mesmerised by her and the fantastic array of puppets’. Mrs Axford, Cumnor Primary.
‘How lovely to be able to have such an exciting experience in this tricky Covid time, all
socially distanced and easily set up. The children hugely enjoyed having a different
experience, Thank you’. Year 2 teacher, Oxford.
So, whatever happens this Christmas, why not enjoy a little bit of online theatre at home
with your small folk. As Heidi and the Snow Globe shows, even when the theatres are
shut….there’s no business like SNOW business!!
