Roly-Poly Easter at The Roald Dahl Museum & Story Centre

The Roald Dahl Museum has lots of fun going on over the Easter holidays (closed Monday 3rd April)

The Twits and The Enormous Crocodile Storytelling

Saturday 1 to Sunday 16 April (except Monday 3 April)

Listen to the Museum’s expert storytellers read from either The Twits and The Enormous Crocodile. You’ll hear all about the Roly-Poly Bird and some other fantastic animals in these energetic storytelling sessions. Feel free to join in with actions and lots of noise!

Buzzwangling Budgies

Saturday 1 to Sunday 16 April (except closed Monday 3 April) – Drop-in throughout the day

Head to our craft room and help us create a room full of birds. Did you know that Roald Dahl had over 100 budgies? Colour yours and add it to our tree. This activity is part of The Wild Escape, a major creative project supported by the Arts Council.

Roly-Poly Clay Pots

Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 April  – 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm

Get your hands covered in clay and make a playful pot. You’ll learn all about the Roly-Poly Bird then use what you’ve discovered to inspire your creation. Will your pot be covered in feathers or have a huge beak? One thing’s for sure, it will definitely have a hidden egg surprise inside.

£4 per person plus Museum entry. Suitable for age 5 and up. Approx 45 minutes.


Make and Shake Tail Feathers

Thursday 6 April  – 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm

Join us for a riot of colour and pattern! We’ll be channelling our inner Roly-Poly Bird and making our own very grand tail feathers to wear. There’s be plenty of materials to choose from and you can even have a go at some printing to make them even more extra-special.

£4 per person plus Museum entry. Suitable for age 5 and up. Approx 45 minutes.


Giant Junk Modelling Nests

Friday 7 to Friday 14 April  – Drop in between 10am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 3.45pm

Drop-in to our pop-up bird hide and have a go at making a giant nest out of junk for the Roly-Poly Bird. Use all sorts of splendiferous materials to make the perfect home for our feathered friend – after all he deserves it! If you need some inspiration there’ll be plenty of information about birds and animals that build nests to guide you. Just make sure it’s big enough for all the Roly-Poly Bird eggs!

Roly-Poly Ramble 

Tuesday 11 and Friday 14 April  – 11.30am and 2pm

Find out about some of the birds and creatures in Roald Dahl’s stories during this wondrous guided walk. Combining the best bits of our Village and Countryside trails you’ll discover the how the local landscape inspired the stories resulting in all sorts of birds, bugs and animals coming to life. You’ll also pop into Great Missenden library to find out how Roald used libraries to help research some of his animal characters.

£4 per person plus Museum entry. All ages welcome but do bear in mind that the walk lasts 45 minutes to an hour. The walk is level, with some slight inclines, it’s mostly on pavement but there are some paths that may be muddy. The Museum and Library are step free.


Discover Dahl’s Archives – Animal Antics

Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 April – 10.30am, 12pm and 2.30pm

Take a peek behind the scenes with our Archive and Collections Manager Rachel. You’ll find out some amazing beastly secrets from the archive, looking at some of the animals that Roald met and wrote about – including The WitchesFantastic Mr Fox and The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me.

£5 per person plus Museum entry, adults and children will need a ticket. Suitable for age 8 and above only. Approx 30 minutes.
