Top 10 Halloween Trails in Oxfordshire
19 October - 3 November
There are lots of pumpkin, scarecrow, Autumn and Halloween trails in Oxfordshire going over over half term. Lots of them are low cost and many raise money to support local charities. Best of all they get us out the house with a little added extra fun, great as an October half term activity with kids in Oxfordshire.
1. High Lodge Farm Spooky Trail
A great traditional style trail through the High Lodge Farm woods with creative displays along the way. Find the letters and unscramble the words for a sweet treat at the end. After dark nights also available but don’t forget a torch!
2. Millets Farm Pumpkins By Night Spooky Trail
Spooky but not too scary, the after dark trail at Millets Farm winds it way from the old maize maze through the enchanted woods. There’s atmospheric lightsing, creative displays and character actors along the way.
3. Earth Trust Scarecrow Trail
The Earth Trust pumpkin patch event has lots of other activities including a mega maize maze and a scarecrow trail. Find three scarecrows in the maize and three more at the Earth Trust centre along with great crafts and science exploration.
4. Tumblestone Hollow Scavenger Hunt
Children are invited to join a Halloween Scavenger Hunt at Tumblestone Hollow to uncover bewitching clues, and piecing together rhymes and riddles in a bid to win a chocolate treat.
6. The Witch’s House at Cogges
Cogges manor house has been transfored with a Roald Dahl theme. A great indoor trail which we absolutely loved and there’s an outdoor trail too along with lots of great activities. Park your broomsticks and take a sneak peak here.
7. Chilton Scarecrow Trail
The Chilton Scarecrow Trail is also the most creative with a new theme each year and local residents putting on amazing displays. This year’s theme is School Children so think Harry Potter, Wednesday Adams and Matilda.
8. Autumn Nature Trail at Roves Farm
Venture out and follow the themed activity trail at Roves Farm this October half term. Lots of other great activities going on too from Witches & Wizards school to tractor rides.
9. Halloween Hunt at Waterperry Gardens
Take part in the Waterperry Halloween Hunt throughout the October half term. £3.95 per child with a prize (children must be accompanied by an adult for whom the garden entrance fee applies)
10. Bunkers Hill Pumpkin Hunt & Trail
Raising money for Mind & Restore this is always a lovely trail to do with the little ones. A family run garden nursery within easy reach of Kidlington and Bicester.
11. Goblin Trail at Ridgeway Adventures
If you’re out to pick a pumpkin in South Oxfordshire, you can pick straight from the field the pumpkins were grown in at Ridgeway Adventures and enjoy a little Halloween trail too.
12. The Old Shed Halloween Trail
The school holiday trails at The Old Shed near Charlbury have long been a favourite of mine, meeting up with my friends and our kids to adventures through the woods. The cakes at the cafe are amazing too!
13. Oxford Castle & Prison Ghost Fest : Spooky Tours
With over 1000 years of gruesome history, Oxford Castle & Prison has seen more than its fair share of horror! Join the guides as they take you on an atmospheric journey through the castle; uncovering some of the most grisly tales of its inhabitants, some of whom are still said to roam the grounds (one for the bigger kids!)
14. Halloween at Blenheim Palace
If you want to go all out then it’s got be the Halloween Trail at Blenheim Palace. Headless horsemen, glowing spider tunnels, fire performers, actors and more.
15. Woodland Pumpkin Hunt at Science Oxford
Science Oxford family days on Saturdays are full of hands on exploration and they have a great outdoor area to explore too. Over half term you can go on a spooky woodland pumpkin hunt.
16. Halloween at Chastleton
Pick up a trail sheet to explore the spooky side of cobweb-covered Chastleton. Discover marks to ward off evil spirits, secret rooms, broomsticks and more. Complete all the activities and win a prize.
17. Basildon Park October Half Term Trail
Collect your trail sheet from visitor reception, follow the map to discover the activities and collect a small prize when you have finished.
18. Hay Bale Maze & Scavenger Hunt at Beale Wildlife Park
A frightfully fun day out with a Hay Bale Maze, Spooky Trivia, a Scavenger Trail, Animal Talks and 10% off entry for all kids in fancy dress!
