Taking the kids rock climbing is lots of fun and you don’t need to be a climber yourself to give them a go.
Far Peak Climbing Centre in the Cotswolds is a great place to go for first time climbers as well as the experienced. It’s in the grounds of Far Peak Campsite (read our review here ).They have a brilliant outdoor tower with auto-belay options, an indoor climbing wall with towers for kids to learn on, as well as a bouldering zone especially for kids which is sure to get little ones interested.
Dedicated Bouldering & Traverse Area For Kids
The dedicated kids climbing area is suitable for children as young as age 3 (as long as they fit a helmet). They have some tunnels as well to keep them amused for hours and the area is completely matted and separate from the main bouldering area next to the cafe – so you can relax with a fresh coffee and watch the action unfold.
Auto Belay & Tower
For the more adventerous kids, the tower provides a real challenge, requiring skill and courage to scale the 12-15m peak. Competent Climbers can belay up to 2 novice/children anytime during opening times, or you can book a place on the regular Instructor Led Sessions.
Climbing Pillars
There are climbing pillars with loads of dedicated kids climbs and routes set on four separate top ropes. The climbs are easy, confident building routes with good visability for parents to watch.
Kids Climbing Courses
The Rock Starz group for age 4 – 8 is a great session for those who have the climbing bug.
They are also a NICAS Awarding centre Levels 1 to 4 and use this as a framework for our academy session – The Ascenders.
You can also climb a tree and learn to Abseil in the warmer months.
Instructor Led Sessions
Activities for children begin with Kids Sessions and Mini Rockers sessions, as a great way to encourage their love for the sport. These fun and exciting sessions can be enjoyed by complete beginners, or those who just want a taster of what climbing is all about.
