I love a child friendly cafe and even better, when you have a play park on hand and things to keep them occupied inside. Tucked away inside Florence Park Oxford, The Flo is an absolute gem of a cafe. It’s located in Flos – the place in the park which is a community-owned hub for people to meet, work, play, create, learn, eat and connect.
The food on offer is mouth watering, from an array of sumptuous cakes just calling out to be devoured to seasonally inspired and organic breakfasts and lunches. They have a kids menu too with beans, eggs or cheesy toast. “The vision for The FLO is to provide a socially positive café hub promoting ecological sustainability.” After enjoying my visit there this morning, I wasn’t surprised to find out that the team running The FLO are also behind the Vault & Garden Cafe in central Oxford and the Alpha Bar in the covered market. The beetroot and chocolate cake was to die for. OK that might be a slight exaggeration but it really was excellent!
What made the visit particularly great for me was how child friendly it is. Right next to the cafe with just a book case to divide it, is a community space, perfect for under 5s with books, a mini play kitchen and plenty of toys. Mid week, you are also allowed to bring your own food in the community area. I happily sat in the rustically decorated cafe side and peeped through the bookcase as my kids played away.
This kid friendly cafe is right next to Florence Park play park, however they do have their own outdoor play space with is fenced in, so you can easily sit outside sipping one of their fab coffees while the kids have a good run around. There’s a lovely pirate ship with giant chimes and a couple of trees which have been cut down but extended stumps left which are great for climbing on.
