Kings Bournemouth is a modern independent 5th and 6th form college. Established in 1957, the college has a long, local history and outstanding track record of student success. The main campus is conveniently located in a quiet setting close to Meyrick Park. This is the main academic and administrative campus providing GCSE, A-Level, Extended Project Qualifications (EPQ) and International Foundation courses.
The college also provides a range of English Language and Summer School Programmes for international students at an adjacent campus with additional teaching and residential accommodation at the St Peters campus in the city centre.
Kings is a fully co-educational independent school for students from the age of 14, providing Form 5 and Sixth Form for Day and Boarding students. The college has a highly personalised approach to learning, student welfare and pastoral development. Teachers have excellent subject knowledge and clearly understand the requirements of the courses they are teaching. This gives students confidence and helps them to gain new knowledge and skills well. The activities in lessons are interesting and well planned to help students make good progress academically. Skilful use of ICT, including interactive whiteboards and Kings VLE ensure lessons are engaging and support students’ learning and development. Teaching is conducted in small classes, with an average of 7 and no more than 10 students per class. Learning is gained through exploration and questioning of subject areas to gain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the course content. Students also develop transferable skills which they can apply to new concepts, problem solving and for their further studies.
Examination structure and marking criteria are explored to ensure students fully understand what examiners are looking for and how marks are allocated. Examination and revision strategies are integrated in to the learning and personal strategies are developed to ensure students maximise their performance and results achieved.
The support provided is not restricted to outstanding subject teaching. Personal Tutors oversee all aspects of students’ learning, development and welfare. Subject and Course Heads ensure students take full advantage of their opportunities and achieve their full potential. Students benefit from the wide range of extension and enrichment activities which greatly enhance the curriculum.
The college provides students with a broad range of experiences and enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including sports and cultural events. Students benefit from an extensive, 7 day a week, Monthly Activities Calendar which offers a wide range of activities clubs and societies. These include the Duke of Edinburgh Awards; academic interest clubs; creative arts, design and media; Kings Business Enterprise Club and a wide range of sports, fitness and wellbeing activities. The college has strong community links and can help identify or facilitate suitable work experience placements in the local area. This summer we will be offering a brand new and exciting revision programme at our school in Bournemouth!
The programme offers an ideal way to fill in any knowledge gaps and work on exam technique, whilst at the same time having fun and engaging with the beautiful locations – forests, parks and beaches – on our doorstep.
Available for a minimum of 1-week, the course will enable students to:
- Refresh subject knowledge and fill in any learning gaps
The course offers an excellent chance for students to catch up with teachers in person and ask any specific questions they may have relating to curriculum before the new term begins, so that they are ready to hit the ground running in September.
- Bring the curriculum to life
The course combines revision in core subjects with a lively and engaging programme of team games and outdoor activities designed to bring the curriculum to life.
All activities are wrapped around, and interact with, our classroom-based teaching. Students will be up and out of their seats, engaging and interacting with the beautiful facilities and locations on our doorstep; the parks, forest and the beach.
- Socialise with students from around the world and enjoy the Great Outdoors while learning
The programme will offer students an excellent chance to experience one of the UK’s most beautiful locations and enjoy being outdoors in the summer with friends and international classmates from around the world before returning to largely class-based learning.
Especially after the recent lockdowns and reduced access to friends and peers, and limited time outside, this will be a precious opportunity to make up for lost time and to make new friends.

In addition to revising and refreshing core subject knowledge, we will give students the tools to improve their study skills, to excel in exams and to prepare for further study. We will provide:

- Try new activities and enhance soft skills
There will be a range of interesting and exciting activities offered as part of the programme, many of which will also offer students the chance to hone their ‘soft’ skills, such as team-work and leadership – great skills to be able to incorporate into sixth-form applications as well as everyday life.
Some of the activities offered will include beachcraft, bushcraft, team games, rounders, basketball, beach volleyball and half-day trips to local places of interest.
