Locks Ride Recreation Ground Splash Pad and Play Area is the perfect place to spend time. A great place to meet friends in the summer months, and you can even hire BBQs to have in the picnic area too.
With free onsite parking literally just outside the play-area it’s location is perfect. The play area itself is beautiful, and so much thought has gone into the design that children will have lots of fun playing and exploring. There is a slide, a variety of different swings from the usual toddler swings, basket swing and older children swings. There are two zip lines which are great fun to “zip” along.
In the main playground a beach theme is expertly thought out, there are cargo nets to climb in, a cargo net bridge to walk along, hammocks to relax in. Most importantly the whole playground is set inside a lovely sand pit giving it that beach feel. (The sand was very clean and we had lots of fun making castles and digging holes) It’s a great idea to take a bucket and spade along with you.
Today was extremely hot at the park, however there was plenty of shaded space if you wanted it. There were picnic benches in the shade, or we took our own blanket and sat on the grass. Even an area of the sand pit is shaded which was great too.
Now everyone knows that children love water play, and the splash area here is great. Although it’s on the small side compared to some it was perfect. It is fully enclosed by a fence and gated – so means the little ones are safe. I did read online before we visited that some of the splash pad was out of order due to misuse earlier on in the summer, so there was only a small section working.
However we still had lots of fun running through the water sprinklers, dipping our toes on the water jets and jumping in all the puddles. On a busy day the water will stop running intermittently whilst it fills back up (we used this time to either grab a snack or reapply our suncream)
* Splash pad opening hours are approximately 11 am – 1 pm and 3 pm – 5 pm *
There is also a refreshment cabin next to the splash pad area which has outside seating next to it too. They serve hot and cold refreshments. Unfortunately the cabin has now reduced its hours due to the school holidays being over, and is now open 3pm-6pm. So today we weren’t able to try out, but we would have loved to try one of the ice creams we saw displayed.
Also if you are feeling energetic then there is a selection of gym equipment located in this area too, where you can have a workout outside. Each equipment is displayed with instructions on how to use it.
A few little tips, take some water shoes as the surface in the splash pad area gets very slippery when it’s wet and remember those beach toys.
