Mamma Mia is an all time favourite in my family as we all love pizza and they do the best around. There’s five in my family so I know we go at least five times a year as that’s the birthday dinner treat of choice each time.
It has an authentic Italian feel with fast and friendly service. Established 40 years ago, it’s a popular spot with locals so definitely worth booking ahead. I’ve always been as family so it was a wonderful treat to be invited along with my husband to celebrate their 40th anniversary and have a lunch date together.
At Mamma Mia they focus on what they’re great at, perfect Italian pizzas, pasta and salads. The pizzas are all made fresh and my kids love to watch their pizza being prepared through the large kitchen window. There’s not a kids menu as such. We tend to order one large pizza for my boys with something different on each side and then Mamma Mia split it in half.
On my most recent visit I thought I’d take the plunge to try something different from the menu and chose the Gnocchi Calabrese and wow it was fantastic. Baked in the oven with Lucanica sausage and smothered in a rich tomato and mozzarella sauce, this may well be my new dish.
My husband couldn’t resist pizza and went for the San Fernando which I couldn’t resist snaffling a few bites from.
There’s a great desserts menu too with ice cream options that are perfect for kids and lots of Italian delights.
On a sunny day, they have a few tables outside, a great spot to watch the going ons in Summertown. They don’t have a car park. If you’re lucky you might find a spot on the street outside or head to the public car park a few minutes walk away.
There are no gimmicks here, just great food, great service and family friendly. Happy Birthday Mamma Mia Pizzeria.
