Pupils in Year 8 at The Oratory Preparatory School raised R310 000 (equivalent to nearly £17000) through their fundraising efforts for the Path Onto Prosperity (POP) Youth Programme. In a trip of a lifetime 38 of our Year 8 pupils went on a 9 day culture and sports tour of South Africa. The pupils stayed at the Goedgedacht Trust where they joined many pupils for a range of activities, football and netball matches, as well as a visit to the school for the younger pupils.
The fundraising activities included a Big Camp Out, a “Great Oratory Preparatory School Bake Off”, Mothers’ Day plants and a silent auction as well as many other events, some of which involved individual parents.
The School has received a letter of thanks from the Charity and understands that the money will be used to expand the POP Youth Programme into some very remote and poor rural communities. The Trust’s vision is to “transform rural communities, by offering the most recent generation of children the opportunity to become healthy, self-confident, educated young people able to take up leadership roles in their own communities.”
