When the sun is shining we always love to venture to a new playground and today we found a beautiful place to explore. Ottershaw Memorial Fields is a fantastic playground and safely enclosed so that the children can explore safely.
This may be an older style playground with traditional metal equipment but that didn’t matter, and we spent a whole morning here exploring. Towards the back of the park there were some baby swings (and it was great to see 4 of these, usually there is only a couple and always a queue for them).
A huge roundabout with about 10 seats proved lots of fun for Noah and Isabella. They enjoyed being spun around really fast and even put their hands in the air asking to go “faster and faster (This was like a workout for me spinning it around and around).
There was also some hoppers, another four older children swings – which thankfully Noah and Isabella have now mastered, so I can get a slight rest break whilst they are swinging. A very unusual climbing structure which we couldn’t even work out what to do with it. lol – this would definitely be for the older children to explore.
There was a further two climbing structures, one I would say is more suited to younger children. It had a small climbing wall to reach the top, or a cargo net which they can climb up and once you are at the top there is a double slide to race down. Along the underside of this climbing structure there was also interactive boards they could play with.
The main climbing frame was huge, there were various ways in which you could access the platform. Isabella chose the climbing wall and Noah opted for the cargo net (there was also the easy steps to do, but my little adventurers opted for the harder route. You can then walk along the beam to the next platform, from here you can slide down the fireman’s pole, scramble down the net, or choose from one of two slides to quickly reach the bottom.
Once we had burnt off lots of energy in the playground we headed for a walk in the woods. Noah was fascinated by all the trees and we had fun looking at the different coloured leaves and trying to identify which type of trees they are. We also found an area where people had been building dens from fallen logs, and this provided a fun activity where we continued to build and had pretend play in the den houses.
We love exploring playgrounds and seeing what the surrounding area has to offer – fresh air and freedom in the perfect activity for burning off all that energy.
