Hidden away on the country lanes between Middlewich and Northwich the lovely family run Riverside Organic Farm Shop also has a cafe with a play area, animals and lovely views over the Cheshire countryside.
We went along looking for somewhere to have a late Sunday breakfast and their cafe hit the spot.
A full breakfast menu was available including the “Full Monty” (£9.50) which me and my hubby ordered. There was also “Half Monty” , a veggie option, breakfast sandwiches and a children’s menu. My 11 year old ordered from the children’s where she got beans, 2 sausages and 2 hashbrowns for £4.75 (September 2023)
It’s a simple but well cooked and presented breakfast. Served on paper plates with wooden cutlery which I’m not really a fan of but i think they are trying to keep things easy as they only have a small kitchen so I’ll let them off!
Its a great place to visit with children as there are two free play areas. One near the cafe with plenty of little tike cars and houses for younger children. Down a little path you will find a wooden play area with a large climbing frame with tyres to climb on, swings and slides.
Next to the play areas are the farm animals you can meet. These were so cute and very used to human contact. A baby cow, goats, emus and a few sheep. The sheep liked a head tickle and then started to follow me to get more. You could buy a bag of animal food for £1.50 from the shop to feed the animals.
The farm has been run by the Bennett family for almost 100 years and Simon Bennett, 47, now manages the farm alongside his parents.
“We selling our own lamb and beef and organic vegetables, and the business has all grown from there really as Riverside Organic.
“We set up the cafe five years ago alongside it. We try to be a proper farm shop rather than just a shop that’s on a farm, so we retail as much as we can off the farm as we can”.
