Rye St Antony Independent School | Headington, Oxford

Rye St Antony School, Oxford, is an outstanding day and boarding school for girls age 3-18 and boys age 3-11 and set in 12 acres of beautiful woodland just a mile from Oxford City Centre.

Here at Rye we’ve been educating girls for almost a century. Our pupils are encouraged to confidently be whoever they want to be and our aim is to inspire them to be the best they can be in life.

The educational learning experience pupils get, we call ‘The Rye Way’. At Rye, we encourage pupils’ true personality to shine so they can successfully follow their dreams in life, whatever they may be. No limits, no boxes. Be whoever they want to be.

Our aim is to help pupils inspire a curiosity for learning and to build the confidence to try new challenges. We want them to feel ambitious and confident as they develop their own individual talents. We believe that ‘the Rye way’ leads to academic success teamed with personal happiness and to strong, resilient young women with a lifelong passion for learning. This is what Rye is all about.

Everyone that visits Rye is taken in by its warmth and sense of community. The friendliness and smiles as well as the engaged learning. There really is only one way to truly experience what we have, and that is to visit us. We welcome you to come at any time that suits you.

Pre-Prep

Pre-Prep at Rye St Antony includes our Rye Bear Nursery School for boys and girls age 3-4, Reception and Year 1 and 2. You can always be assured of an enthusiastic welcome in our Pre-Prep department at Rye St Antony School, not only from the staff, but also the children themselves! You will see happy, smiling faces, as they busy themselves finding out about the world around them, investigating and exploring.

Supported by a team of well-qualified staff, the children in our care are able to enjoy a rich and stimulating learning environment both indoors and out, with a very good balance of focused and child-led activities.

Unique to Rye St Antony, we offer a full Forest School for all children.

Prep School

In our lively, and educationally stimulating Prep School for boys and girls aged between 5 and 11, every new day is for exploration. Our Prep School pupils are encouraged to use their natural curiosity to develop a love of learning in an inspiring, nurturing and engaging environment.

Alongside our broad and balanced curriculum, taught by highly-experienced staff, children are always busy with all kinds of activities from clubs to Forest School, art and pottery to cookery.

This child-centred approach, combined with structured learning targets to suit each pupil’s individual needs, provides the key ingredients for creating a happy, well-rounded young person, ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities of Senior School and beyond.

Senior School

Our experienced specialist teaching staff in Senior School take time to encourage a zest for learning, opportunities to question, research and discover across a broad curriculum. Girls are encouraged to discuss and investigate what they have learned, both in and outside the classroom so that they easily switch from learning with others to learning independently.

At Rye we take great pride in the level of our pastoral care – each girl’s mental and physical wellbeing is our Number One priority and this leads to happy, confident pupils who willingly accept challenges and perform to the best of their ability in all areas.

Whilst academic standards and expectations are high, our small class sizes ensure active, inclusive and confident learning. Girls at Rye really benefit from teaching and support targeted to their individual needs, strengths and interests.

The Rye Senior School community is happy, busy and full of life as this ensures our girls reach their full potential, whether academic, sporting or extra-curricular.

Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form girls are mature, confident young women who enjoy life in a school environment. They benefit from small class sizes at A level and a breadth of academic and creative courses. Their experience at Rye enables them to discover their passions, hone their talents and go on to have inspirational individual success in their studies and careers. A Rye girl knows that the future is hers for the taking.

There is also the option of enriching A Level studies by opting for additional qualifications including a BTEC Business, The Leiths Professional Food and Wine Qualification, the Extended Project Qualification or by completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s award. Breadth of interest and skill are key to building successful young career women who can take on the world.
