The gory story of medicine through time is a brand new history of medicine attraction in Chester and reviewed by local Cheshire mum Jenny aka @daysoutmealsout
The museum was a great find and I’d recommend to families or even just adults. It’s full of wonderful facts and display in a fascinating way to keep both adults and kids amused.
Inside an old church in the historic centre of Chester, it’s a self guided museum with a difference. Inside you’ll find lots of different areas to explore. There’s a disease filled alley, showing all the ways you can catch something nasty.
The autopsy room explains what’s going on inside our bodies and how it can show us how someone died. There are rooms covering topics such as surgery through the ages, the breakthrough in medicines, how we discovered x-rays and way to treat infections.
We learnt what a skeleton can tell us about our past and the history of toilet and how we can find out about our health from what we put in it.
From old wives’ tales to modern chemistry, we learnt how plants play an important role in creating medicines which keep us healthy.
There are some gory parts and some adult only sections but these are kept behind curtains so if you would rather not see them you can choose to avoid.
We spend an hour and a half visited and my 7 and 10 year old found it really interesting.
