Tackley playground is not far from me and we love this gem of a play park. It ticks two big boxes for me. Most importantly my kids love it, with lots of good quality and interesting equipment. The second big tick is purely selfish and it’s that it has a little volunteer run village shop where you can buy a a tea or coffee and if you’re luckily warm, fresh sausage rolls.
Tackley playground is probably such a winner with the kids, because it was designed by kids. Opened in the summer of 2014, it still feels fresh and new. It’s a good size to be able to keep an eye on your children but still with plenty for them to explore. I also like the variety of equipment which will keep both younger and older kids happy.
My boys both loved the bespoke wooden combine harvester which is great for imaginative play. There’s also tunnels to hide in, a zip wire to fly down, lots of things to climb on and a low level trampoline.
The swings are at the far end next to the roundabout with some shade which is always good in the summer. There are benches dotted around the park too.
The climbing frame for older kids gives them a good stretch. My almost 7 year old has only just got tall enough to be able to get up (not so great on climbing down) and my 10 year old still enjoys it.
There are also great big play fields next, ideal for kicking around a football.
Tackley Village Shop
Pop into the village shop to pick up refreshments and snacks, they have a freezer cabinet with a range of ice creams and ice lollies, perfect for a summer treat that won’t break the bank.
Tackley Playground Parking & Facilities
There’s a good sized car park right next to Tackley playground with disabled spaces and it has level access to the park. Toilets are available next to the village shop but it’s a bit hit and miss if they’re open. I’m guessing they’re just open when the building is in use for something else.
