Benidorm is a highly popular holiday destination that attracts millions of Brits each year. The iconic Spanish resort town is well known for its long stretches of golden sand beaches, warm climate, and theme parks, all at a low cost.
Whether you’re the type of family to pack in as much action as possible or spend your time relaxing, the choice is yours. From watersport activities to live performances and trips to the zoo, we take a look at some of the best activities for the family in Benidorm, including some useful tips to ensure you have a holiday that you’ll never forget.
Go on an adventure at Terra Natura
Live a wild adventure at Terra Natura Animal Park in Benidorm, a huge wildlife park home to over 1,500 animals in their natural habitat. Take your little ones on a journey through various continents, observing species of elephants, rhinos, tigers, and lions.
With invisible barriers, you really get up close and personal with the animals and there are plenty of shows to see, including the birds of prey exhibition and an interactive reptile discovery experience. If you plan to stay for the whole day, there are plenty of snack outlets and rides to keep the kids entertained.
There’s also a night safari, should the kids have energy left after the day. With the temperature cooler, it’s a great time to stroll around the zoo and watch the animals who’ve come out to be active or hunt. It’s not just a fun day out but an educational one too!
Visit Spain’s first-ever water park
Located on the outskirts of Benidorm is Aqualandia, one of the largest water parks in the entire world. There are plenty of attractions here for children, including chutes, water slides, and wave pools. You’ll also find rides for adults and older children, such as drop slides and a man-made beach.
With a variety of shops and restaurants available on-site, it’s the perfect place to spend a whole day of your holiday. If you’re visiting during the summer when the heat is intense, a cool dip in the water here is bliss.
A day out at the beach with the family
While you can never go wrong with a massive pool and floats, you can’t beat a trip to the beach. The salty smell of the sea and the sand between your toes isn’t really something we experience much at home, so you’ve got to make the best of it while you can.
If you only have time to visit one, we recommend Levante Beach, one of the best-known beaches in the whole of Europe. Over 2km long, you’re always guaranteed a space and the area is specially designed for children, including lifeguard surveillance, play areas, and walkways.
You’ll also find plenty of bars and restaurants along the promenade if you get peckish – or you can simply get yourself a sunbed and relax for the day.
Explore Benidorm Island on a glass-bottom boat
Since Benidorm is located on the coast, there’s the choice to venture out to sea. One particular location you must visit is Benidorm Island, a tiny paradise that is accessible only by boat. The islet is uninhabited but welcomes many tourists during the daytime.
There is only one restaurant on the island but that’s not the real reason why people flock here every day. What’s so special about the location is its diverse marine life and species of sea birds that nest in the area. The best way to reach here is via the glass bottom boat. Trust us, the kids will adore looking at all the unusual creatures from the comfort of the boat.
Don’t forget to organise your transport
It’s important to remember that the closest airport to Benidorm is in Alicante, therefore you’ll need to make arrangements for when you arrive and when you return home. The journey is not difficult though and can be cheap depending on what type of transport you use.
While you can get the bus from the airport, it might be difficult if you have lots of luggage and an impatient young family. Instead, you can opt for a transfer from Alicante to Benidorm that will take you directly to your accommodation. There is also the option of choosing a shared shuttle service or a private one.
Stay at a family-friendly resort
Benidorm is highly regarded for its wide selection of family resorts, which offer the perfect blend of excitement, comfort, and convenience. From child-friendly amenities to massive swimming pools and water parks, these resorts are specially designed to create an unforgettable holiday experience for children and adults alike.
Most of these resorts will also offer an all-inclusive option, meaning you don’t need to fork out on expensive meals outside of your accommodation. Usually, the food is served buffet-style ensuring there is always something for even the fussiest of eaters.
