This was our first time to The Crocky Trail, so we were really excited to visit, and we weren’t disappointed! Set in a little village of Waverton, near Chester, it’s easy to find and well signposted on arrival, with plenty of free parking… just beware of the crocodiles!
The Crocky Trail is the perfect place to spend a day with family and friends with over 40 attractions to explore, there’s something for everyone!

The Crocky Trail
As you enter the park, you’ll see plenty of maps and signage to the entrance to the Trail. The Crocky Trail is a mile long and took us about an hour to explore.
It’s set around the perimeter of a large field, also with a stream running through it and there’s lots of woodland area.
There’s lots of different ways to cross the Crocky stream with scary wobbly bridges, a swinging chain bridge and a fallen log. You must be careful where you put your feet as otherwise you can end up in lots of mud or with wet feet. Thankfully we didn’t see anyone fall in as most of the bridges have rails to hold onto if you need them.
Along the Crocky Trail there are a series of rides such as swings, and roundabouts.
There are also a few mazes suitable for all the family, and a jailhouse for naughty Dads.
My kids enjoyed locking their Dad away…only for a few minutes! You must also watch out for the Crocodiles along the way, especially the one who squirts water at you!
The Crocky Trails is also very dog friendly and there are special routes for wheelchair users and pushchairs. We saw lots of families all ages having great fun. The one tip I have though is we went on a sunny, dry day, but the trail was still muddy in parts. It’s best to wear suitable footwear like trainers or walking boots and suitable clothing you don’t mind getting muddy. I should have brought a change of clothes for the kids especially socks, but that’s part of the fun getting covered in mud isn’t it?
Slides for little kids and big kids
On entering the park, you are greeted by a choice of lots of different slides. There are giant, drop slides suitable more for 9 years and over, and smaller slides suitable for 4 year and over.
You can also go down with toddlers and younger children on your knee. All you have to do is grab a mat, climb up the steps and then you drop down the slide. You won’t be surprised to hear that it was the parents who screamed the most coming down the slide! Our kids absolutely loved it and although my son did say that the giant slide “was terrifying” he still went on it lots of times!
The rides
There are so many rides to have fun on at the Crocky Trail. Most are task based so consist of either staying on them while they spin round, jumping over things, or climbing up things.
The spinning wheel and Titanic rides were our favourites. The spinning wheel spins you around really fast and the challenge is to simply stay on…my 9 year old was always the first to fall off but my 7 year old seemed to master it really well. The Titanic on the other hand that is something else…imagine a big slide that you climb to the top of then it starts to tilt higher and higher forcing you to slide down. You have to hold on really tight. You won’t be surprised to hear despite the competitive Mum in me I was always one of the first to fall down the slide…much to the embarrassment of my children!!
Football and basketball
For any football, basketball or cricket fans the Crocky Trail is perfect. With several mini football areas there are challenges like penalty race and shooting stars. My son loved competing against the clock to hit as many lights as possible with a football…he even beat his Dad!
There are also lots of basketball games where you have to shoot as many balls through the hoop as possible in a minute. Plus, if you enjoy playing Connect Four you can play it here with a basketball. As for cricket – that was a great challenge too – cricket balls are fired at you, and you must hit the balls as far as you can. My son particularly enjoyed all these sports challenges.
Fun for little ones
Little ones aged 5 years and under can play in the fantastic Wonderland area where you’ll find pixie huts, bouncy castles, swings, slides and games!
The area is hidden away from the main slides and rides and is contained so it’s perfect for little ones to explore without getting lost. Although our children are a little older, we saw lots of little ones having fun in here laughing and giggling.
Food and Drink areas
There are two main food and drink areas. Crocky Bites serves a range of different food and drink options to suit all tastes and budgets. The pizza and chips looked incredible! There’s also Kelly’s ice cream scoop bar offering lots of great ice cream flavours like millionaires shortbread and rocky road plus all the usual favourites. We treated ourselves and they were yummy!
We decided to bring a picnic as the weather was nice. There are lots of picnic benches dotted around the park, and plenty of seating with undercover areas to shelter you from the rain. You could also take a picnic blanket too as there’s grassy areas. We were very impressed as everywhere was clean with plenty of rubbish bins around too.
A great, fun filled day out
We had a fantastic day at The Crocky Trail and will definitely be returning. The kids were asleep within minutes on the way home which is always the sign of a great day out and shows how much fun they had!
