The George & Dragon Holmes Chapel

The George & Dragon in Holmes Chapel is one of our local pubs and we often visit for family meals and drinks with friends. It’s the sort of place you pop into and are guaranteed to see someone you know.

We had been out all day on an Easter adventure and got back home not wanting to cook. So we walked to the George for tea.

The menu has a good selection of different pub meals, they offer a few burgers and a good selection of different hanging kebabs. The menu changes requested with seasonal specials such as a special Easter menu. The prices are on the higher side however everything is made fresh on the premises and we always find the food good quality and really enjoyable.

We were after a smaller tea than some of the main meals so I went for one of their light bite options. I chose to have their fish sandwich as it was Good Friday, which came with mushy peas, tartar sauce and battered fish goujons on a ciabatta. Served with fries and coleslaw which is only £10 (April 2023)

My husband chose a couple of their small plates which are like tapas. He went for Lemon & Herb Panisses which are Chickpea polenta chips and harissa mayonnaise and Cheddar Rarebit Croquettes with a Spicy tomato dip.

The children menu is equally as good. With options for toddlers and older children. My daughter ordered 3 courses which was garlic bread, Battered fish goujons (like mummy) and chocolate brownie. My daughter has ordered this meal a few times when eating here and always enjoys it.

My eldest daughter is gluten free so she decided to have a jacket potato off the main menu plus a starter off the children’s menu of nachoes.  I’ve spoken to the chef before about gluten free options and they are always very helpful and can change the menu or create special meals to make sure my daughter finds something she can have.
