A visit to the play park is a great little outing, that’s totally free and runs off all that energy (and hopefully means a good night sleep). If you’re looking for a playground to explore in Windsor, check out our top 5 Windsor play parks.
1. Clewer Memorial Recreation Ground aka The Pirate Park, Dedworth Road, Windsor SL4 5BD
Just off the Dedworth road, the Pirate Park is one of Windsor’s most popular parks. With its dominating pirate ship feature and sand base, it’s a real hit with kids who want to climb, slide and dig. It’s also a hit with parents, carers and childminders with its onsite café and toilet facilities. At the far end of the grassed area is a caged multi use sports area which is also shared with the school nearby.
- Free onsite parking
- Recommended age: 3–12yrs
2. Bachelors Acre, Windsor SL4 1E
A colourful tarmacked park. A perfect way to break up some shopping in the town centre with kids. Set in the historical Bachelors Acre, this park is popular with those with younger children and a great one in the summer when the water fountains are on, often used as a splash pad. There is a refreshment kiosk and toilets on site.

3. Imperial Park, Imperial Road, Windsor SL4 3RU
This is a popular park for outdoor fitness classes and older children. With outdoor gym equipment and caged football & basketball area, it also has a large grassed area with football goals, which is an ideal space for any sports fans. This area also has a flat paved path round it so ideal for scooting or bike riding. I personally find the park here is better suited for older children. Wood chip flooring and quirky play apparatus make it a perfect park for any adventurous kids who love a challenge.
- Free parking onsite and toilets.
- Recommended age: 3-12yrs
4. Home Park, Romney Lock Road, Windsor SL4 6HX
Forming part of the Crown Estate and with views of Windsor Castle, this gorgeous park is set in sports ground with multiple pitches used for rugby, football, cricket, tennis and archery.
The play park has two separate areas for younger children and older children, although its free flow. My youngest loves the fact that he can spot the South West trains on the train line at Windsor & Eton Riverside station whilst on the swing.
- Pay & display parking
- Recommended age 3-12yrs
5. Vansittart Recreation Park, Windsor SL4 5DL
Situated just outside the town centre is a large public open space popular for its gated skate park. With a dog free children’s play area and picnic area, it also has a large grassed area perfect for sports and is commonly used for outdoor fitness classes. Close by is also Windsor Community Centre that has a 5-aside floodlit football pitches and basketball court. This is a good one if you have a mixture of ages to keep entertained.
- Free parking but small car park. Parking also accessible from Windsor Community Centre on Alma Road which is free for 2 hours.
- Recommended age: 3-12yrs
