Wellington Country Park campsite is nestled in the woods, adjoining the country park and makes a great location to camp with the family. You have great fun camping with the added bonus of being able to walk straight into the country park for a great family fun day out. Campsite fees include free unlimited access to the country park. I camped for the first time with friends in 2016 and we’re booked again for 2017.
Wellington Country Park Campsite Forest Pitches
The campsite is situated in a forest and the pitches are constructed around the natural lay of the woodlands.
Consequently, the ground which you will pitch up on is that of a typical forest floor. This means that your pitch could be slightly gravelly; be a silted surface; have tree roots or pine cones scattered around; or be slightly uneven.
Being within a forest, grass is usually unable to grow so for those booking tent pitches, they do recommend that you bring toughened metal tent pegs and an extra ground sheet for added protection and comfort.
Being nestled in the forest has a special feel and a different atmosphere to large field style campsite. We were even treated to deer wandering around.
Wellington Country Park Campsite Facilities
There are decent hot showers and the washing area and toilets are kept clean. There is also a laundry area with a washing machine, tumble drier, and an iron.
With almost no phone signal, this is a get a way from it campsite. Some pitches can pick up a signal and if you can then you may also be able to pick up their Wi-Fi signal (you can pay £3 for 24 hour access).
