Windsor Great Park Adventure Play

Windsor Great Park Adventure Play is a brand new adventure playground which is located by Savill Gardens and is due to open just in time for the summer holidays 2023. This is a woodland themed play area, incorporating slides, treehouses and areas for creative play.

We have been watching from afar as the developments were taking place and waiting patiently to explore the incredible structures we could see. Today was the day we had all been waiting for, and it was certainly worth the wait – for the children and us adults too.

As soon as you walk through the doors the WOW factor is certainly there. It feels like you’ve entered a little wooden village, with beautiful crafted houses, large acorns to climb in, wooden leaves which move when you jump on them and an impressive water play feature.

For the little members of the family this area is perfect, there is a sand pit area where they can play in, the house or use the slide whilst feeling the soft sand between their toys. An impressive toddler zip line was a big hit, usually they are too small to enjoy this feature however a specially designed seat means that toddlers now have the opportunity to experience and enjoy this also.

Placed around the beautifully grassed area are interactive music stations where they could play the xylophone or bang on the steel drums. We were able to role play at The Post Office playing with the tills and seeing which creatures were hiding on the wall calendar.

Inside each wooden house were more surprises, there could be a tunnel leading to another adventure, a ladder offering another floor to explore, a rope bridge for further explorations or a cute bug hotel for the tiniest of creatures. Each had been carefully thought of and was exciting to explore.

Water is always a big hit and we were pleased to see a huge water play feature here, you were able to pump the water down the rock stream, watch it turn the wheels as it flowed down and end up at the bottom of the rockery. Both little ones loved splashing their hands in the water and taking it in turns to pump the water.

The artificial grass flooring was great for the children exploring this area, they were able to crawl through the tunnels, safely exploring the area and the grassy steps and if they did stumble it didn’t cause any problems. There were low level activities for them to enjoy but also had the opportunity for them to climb and explore higher if they wished to do so.

Now for the bigger explorers, following the wooden bridge pathway leads you to a jaw dropping tree house. With breath taking slides, cargo nets, wire tunnels, bouncy bridges, bug hotels, interactive features – you won’t actually know where to head first. The children got stuck straight in with me chasing after them desperately trying to keep up to try and take some photos for this review.

Each bridge you walk across takes you on a new adventure, and certainly gets you being at one with nature. Noah was feeling brave today and insisted on climbing to the very top and speeding down the slide, I lost count the amount of times he climbed to the top just to enjoy the slide again and again. Each time though he managed to find a new way of getting there, the usual way of steps were outshone by the metal cage which lead up to heights even I couldn’t master.

Set within the main treehouse were further slides which we could also enjoy with the children, beautiful sculptured wooden animals were carefully designed into the structure and there were even more bug hotels. Again to reach different levels of the Adventure Play we’re various ways to do so, and each way you turned be it left right, down or above you were spoilt for choice in where to go.

We had lots of fun walking and running across the bouncy bridges and seeing where all the different paths took us. One of my favourite slides was in the back far corner of the Adventure Play, it had rollers on the bottom of the slide so when we slid down the speed was a slow steady speed which the children enjoyed. We had lots of giggles coming down here as the movements felt very unusual.

So much thought and consideration has gone into the Adventure Playground, and you can see that they have literally thought of everything. Whether you like to be adventurous and climb the highest tree, scramble amongst the nets, be like a rabbit and burrow through the tunnels or have some creative play in the little wooden houses there is something for everyone.

In the words of 3 year old Noah “this was the best day ever, I love it” He’s already asking when we can go back and explore more. Isabella was exhausted from her morning of exploring that she fell asleep as soon as we got into the car. This is always a sign of a good day out.

Where to Park for Savill Gardens Adventure Playground at Windsor Great Park

Windsor Great Park is spread over 1,942 hectares (4,800 acres), with multiple car parks and destinations.  The adventure playground is located next to Savill Gardens
