Wowzers – you went all out to support your local family favourites in the Red Kite Days Awards 2019, with literally thousands of people voting. It was extremely close in many of the categories so a huge congratulations to all the finalists and a big thank you to everyone who supported by nominating and voting. I’ve been a little later than I planned announcing the winners as there’s a draw in one of the categories and I’ve been back through a mountain of votes to double check. Imagine the odds of that!
After checking out the winners, do scroll on down and check out the finalists too . The voting was so close and there are some great places to try for a family day out, clubs & classes, family friendly restaurants and treats for Mum.
Here are the winners of the Red Kite Days Awards 2019
Red Kite Days Awards Winners
Best Museum
Oxford University Museum of Natural History – affectionately known as the ‘dinosaur museum’ by my kids, this was a firm favourite in your votes. They are a family friendly museum and you and your children are very welcome at any time. The Museum building is spacious and light, so perfect for little ones to explore and discover the wonders of the natural world.
Best Animal Attractions
Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens – set in 160 acres of parkland, the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens is split into four key areas with beautiful gardens, a large variety of animals and adventure play areas. They have so many animals to see from lemurs and penguins to lions and giraffes.
Best for Eating Out
I can’t believe that there were exactly even votes for these two favourites so they are both crowned winners of the eating out category.
Mamma Mia (Summertown, Oxford) – Established over 35 years ago, it’s a popular spot with fantastic pizzas, great service and a lovely Italian and family friendly feel.
Air Raid Shelter Cafe & Tea Room (High Wycombe) – the cafe takes you back to the 1940s with their furnishing and a menu to match.
Best Indoor Play
Sprouts Play Barn at Millets Farm – crowned winner in last year’s awards, Sprouts Play Barn have only gone and done it again! They have a super large play area suitable for children and more recently they’ve also added an outdoor area making this a great option for soft play this summer. Check out my review.
Best Outdoor Fun
Wellington Country Park – 350 acres of beautiful park lands located between Reading and Basingstoke, it’s the biggest outdoor play in Berkshire. There are adventure play areas, toddler zones, sand pits, slides, a miniature railway, animal farm and petting barn, nature trail maze, enchanted forest, splash park and more and they always have great extra events running through the school holidays.
Best Theatre
Chipping Norton Theatre – much loved by you guys, the theatre is home to stage performances, cinema, music, comedy and much more. The ‘Chippy Panto’ has an amazing reputation and a theatrical highlight for kids and parents alike in this small but sassy theatre.
Best Baby & Toddler Groups
Red Kite Centre Stay & Play (Thame) – a family friendly centre providing both parents and their children with resources and activities to enhance both physical, mental and social development. Their stay & plays are open sessions for under 5’s running on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Best Kid’s Activity Class

It offers a world of exciting experiences full of interesting sights, sounds, smells, colours, materials and language that help encourage new brain connections in babies first precious year.

Ride On Time – a finalist in the the party and in the kids activity class category, Ride On Time are officially crowned winners of best parties. Run by a husband and wife team, they’re totally original and not part of a franchise. They have a HUGE range of push alongs, ride-on toys and traffic accessories that you can hire for your own private party.
Best Teacher
Jeanette Brown started her love of dance from an early age with lots of experience including being a dancer for Euro Disney. She’s now inspires and passes on her dance passion as Joint Principal and Teacher at The Just Dance Company.
For Mum
This was an added little extra as Mums often come last on the priority list when all the focus is on kids. It was a very wide category which included nominations for postnatal exercise classes to spa retreats.
Daisy Foundation Birthing Class – offers active antenatal and birth education classes and workshops for couples, yoga based relaxation classes for mum only as well as baby massage and baby yoga post birth.
